Don't see your exact class? Reach out. If it's close to something here, there's a good chance I can help, and I'll tell you honestly if I can't.

How it works

Getting started is one text away

  1. Reach out

Text or email with your student's grade, subject, and what's going on. A two-minute message is plenty.

  2. Free intro chat

We'll talk for 15 minutes about goals, schedule, and fit, with the parent, the student, or both. You'll get an honest read on whether I'm the right tutor.

  3. Start sessions

We set a regular time, I build a plan around your student's actual coursework, and you get a short progress note after every session.

The intro chat is free and there's no commitment.

Declan Miller, founder of Miller Academic Coaching

About your tutor

Hi, I'm Declan.

I'm an Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Notre Dame, Class of 2029, and a graduate of Regis High School right here in New York City. Not long ago, I was sitting exactly where your student is sitting. I took these classes, wrote these essays, and sat for these exams recently enough to remember what actually works.

That recency is the whole idea behind Miller Academic Coaching. Students find me easy to talk to because I'm close enough in age to feel like a peer, and parents get a tutor who has proven, very recently, that these methods produce top results. I explain things the way I wish they'd been explained to me, and I'm honest about what's working and what isn't.

FAQ

Common questions

How much do sessions cost?

Rates depend on subject level, session length, and how often we meet, so I quote each family individually. Text or email and I'll give you a straight answer the same day. Every new student starts with a free 15-minute intro chat, so you'll know the full picture before committing to anything.

How long is a typical session?

Most subject-tutoring sessions run 60 minutes. For SAT/ACT prep I usually recommend 90 minutes so we have time for both timed practice and review. Younger students often do better with 45-minute sessions. We'll pick what fits your student in the intro chat.

How do online sessions work?

We meet over Zoom or Google Meet with a shared digital whiteboard and shared documents, so we can work through problems together in real time. Students consistently find it just as effective as sitting side by side. All you need is a laptop or tablet, a webcam, and a quiet spot. Sessions are also available in person in the New York City area on a seasonal basis, typically during school breaks; ask about current availability when you reach out.

You're a college student. Why is that a good thing?

Because I took these exact classes and exams recently, I remember precisely where students get stuck and which strategies actually raised my scores, not how the material was taught a decade ago. Students open up to me because I feel like a peer; parents get someone with recent, verifiable top results. And I'm honest about scope: I only tutor subjects I know cold.

What ages and levels do you work with?

Kindergarten through 12th grade across core subjects, plus SAT/ACT/AP prep and study-skills coaching. I also tutor a deliberately short list of college courses (Calculus 1 and 2 and introductory physics and chemistry) because those are the courses I just completed at a high level.

What's your cancellation policy?

Life happens. Just give me 24 hours' notice and we'll reschedule at no charge. Sessions cancelled with less notice may be billed, but I'm always reasonable about genuine emergencies.
